What began as a small family venture gradually grew over the years, with the farm expanding alongside the family’s experience and ambitions. A major turning point came in 2020, when Milan Mačvan, a member of the next generation of the Mačvan family and a former international basketball player, decided to embark on a new professional chapter by investing in the very land where his family’s story began.
Growth That Follows the Vision
Six years after EatFruit was officially registered as a company, the number of trees and variety of fruit crops had grown significantly. This growth was driven not only by investment, but also by consistent hard work, a clear vision, and a team of experts who turned that vision into tangible results - from agronomists responsible for the health and development of every plant to the workers in the plantations who care for the crops every day.
Today, the plantations cover a total of 85.5 hectares. While hazelnuts still make up the largest part of production, the company also grows pears, raspberries, cherries, plums, and strawberries.
A Modern Cooperative: Combining Tradition and Innovation
The idea behind the EatFruit brand is rooted in a tradition that was once a key part of Serbian agriculture - the cooperative model. Periods when this system was well developed in the region are often associated with more profitable and competitive agriculture. However, over time, as land became increasingly fragmented and the cooperative system declined, many small farms were left without the support they needed - including access to capital and the resources required for further growth. For many, this made it increasingly difficult to remain sustainable.
This historical lesson is what inspired the concept behind EatFruit: a crowdfunding model that acts as a modern cooperative, adapted to today’s world. Instead of farmers carrying the full risk of production on their own, or pooling land and labor as in a traditional cooperative, the model brings capital together. Individuals invest in a specific, already established agricultural production, share in its results, and become part of a joint agricultural venture - without needing to own land or manage the plantations themselves.
So, what does this mean for EatFruit in practice, and how does the model work for someone who wants to invest?
Partnership with EatFruit
Behind every successful investment is a process designed to be as simple as possible for the investor, making the model both practical and highly efficient.
The investor chooses how many trees they want to invest in and which fruit they prefer. They then sign an agreement that officially confirms that the selected trees are fully owned by the investor, even though they physically remain on the EatFruit farm in the village of Culjković. From that point on, our team takes full care of the trees, from planting and cultivation to the first harvest and every harvest that follows.
When harvest time comes, the fruit from the investor’s trees is harvested and sold, and the income generated is paid directly to the investor, with no additional involvement required on their part. In this way, until the initial investment has been fully recovered, the investor receives 100% of the profit from the sale of the fruit. Once the initial investment has been fully repaid, the profit-sharing model changes: 70% of the profit goes to the investor, while 30% goes to EatFruit. This allows investors to generate passive income year after year, while our team takes care of the entire production process, from planting and cultivation to harvesting and sales.
EatFruit currently offers investment opportunities in two of its six fruit crops: hazelnuts and pears.
